This national bank’s EDD case time halved in 12 weeks


One of the largest banks in the United States was finding international research challenging, particularly monitoring risk-relevant changes within their client base – a key regulatory requirement.

The first difficulty was that the bank’s staff weren’t aware of where best to look to understand risk, but wanted to upskill their team to carry out this work in-house rather than outsourcing this work for a large cost. Secondly, they needed automation to improve effectiveness. The analysts could add human value in interpreting data and making key decisions, but manually copy-pasting information into an audit trail is laborious and slow.

The bank’s clients would require Enhanced Due Diligence if risk factors exceeded a certain threshold. 21 factors are continuously monitored, including location and products that the client uses. This procedure is often for clients with global exposure due to an international ownership structure, and this requires the searching of foreign language content for research. The bank had no capability in place to search and translate content globally, so risk-relevant data could be missed.
