Jobs

General information

Arachnys' core competency is harvesting data from the wild and helping customers use it to support better business decisions – about who to take on as a customer, which suppliers to use and who to hire. Arachnys allows customers to search 16,000 corporate, news, social media and litigation sources – spread over 220 countries – in more than 90 languages.

Our approach is nimble and responsive, with close integration between marketing, sales and tech.

Flexible working

Turn up early, leave early, work from home – far more flexible than a corporate job. As long as you get your work done we don’t care where you do it from.

Office location

Our offices are located five minutes' walk from the Barbican Centre. It's a bright, airy space equipped with free food, showers and fresh towels, standing desks, and great people.

Visas and sponsorship

We are able to offer to sponsor visas and pay relocation expenses only for exceptional candidates. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Remote working may be suitable for some roles, but we have a strong preference for teammates based in London (or commuting distance). If you're unsure, please get in touch and ask.

Closing dates

All roles are advertised with the potential to start immediately unless stated otherwise. If the role is still advertised, it's worth applying.

How to apply

  • Email jobs@arachnys.com to introduce yourself and tell us how you think you fit the role
  • Make your subject line the same as the job title you are applying for

Please follow these guidelines:

  • Write your covering letter in the body of your email, not as an attached Word or PDF document
  • For technical applicants, please include a link to your GitHub profile or similar. If you're proud of your GitHub, we probably won't need to see a formal CV until further on in the recruitment process. If in doubt, please ask.
  • Please attach an up-to date CV

We aim to respond to all applications within ten days; please check your spam folder if you do not receive a response from an application. We will not acknowledge receipt of individual applications.

We do not currently work with recruiters or consultants, but we will answer legitimate enquiries from individual candidates.

Speculative applications

If you're excited by what we're doing and think you could be a good fit for the team, don’t worry if you don't see a job spec which perfectly matches your skills. Feel free to send your CV marked for the attention of the founders.

In particular, we're always on the lookout for the exceptional technical candidates. We read and respond to every bona-fide application.

Technology

On the tech side, we work on hard but rewarding problems with advanced, performant technologies. We run our own distributed infrastructure with physical and virtualised servers located all over the globe, including a 100TB+ Hadoop cluster and a 10TB+ ElasticSearch cluster. We use Ansible for configuration and deployment.

Our main customer-facing application is a Django application, with the front-end code written in CoffeeScript using Backbone.js, LESS and other modern, open-source frameworks and tools. We also use assorted other open-source technologies such as Golang, Vagrant, PhantomJS, Postgresql, Redis, gevent, Celery and Scalding.

Sitting behind the customer-facing app is a 100TB+ data cluster powered by Hadoop/HBase, ElasticSearch, PhantomJS and other fun technologies.

We are contributors to open source, with our Cabot server monitoring tool starred over 2,000 times on GitHub and AthenaPDF, a PDF generation project in Go, over 1,000 times. We are constantly looking for opportunities to open-source more and more of our non-core tech.

Diversity

We’re proud to have a team made up of individuals from all over the world. We’re passionate about diversity, and we believe variety in age, race, disability, gender or sexual orientation enhances our work and our environment.

We use 120TB+ of data coupled with extraordinary user experience to help prevent financial crime worldwide. At the moment we're looking for engineers of any experience level.

  • We work with Python, JS, Docker, some Go, TDD, Hadoop, ElasticSearch, Terraform, Ansible, Neo4j and Dgraph. Experience in any of these is a plus but not required.
  • Expertise with web development.
  • Pull-up-your-sleeves mentality.
  • Like seeing things through to completion.
  • Not afraid to get into the details with technologies you’re unfamiliar with.

Arachnys is a workflow automation platform to analyse and prevent financial crime. Our enterprise-grade platform enables banks and multinational organisations to onboard customers, distributors and partners faster and to handle risks more efficiently. We streamline existing search and reporting processes to accelerate them by 2x or more. Arachnys’ customers include global top-10 banks, big 4 advisory firms and large multinationals.

What’s different about us?

  • No rockstar coders or brilliant jerks — just great people solving hard problems for real customers.
  • Anyone can get involved with any part of our system — front-end developers can write Hadoop jobs if they fancy
  • We have a committed focus on delivering quality, while not being scared of pushing back on customer demands. (A top bank recently told us that we were the first supplier that had asked them, "Why?", about their requirements.)

What hard problems are we solving?

  • Big data: we have a news cluster of a 120TB+ that we do millions of searches a day against
  • We use graph databases to figure out who owns what using messy data from corporate registries, news and other sources
  • UX: We are building a single product for very different customers with very different demands and use-cases. Transforming it into a coherent and useful product.
  • As we are growing quickly and selling into big organisations we have to scale up, especially around running thousands of searches in parallel over different sources.

Whats great about our culture?

  • We work hard but it’s never “Crunch-Time” for us. No sleeping under desks or 14-hour days.
  • Amazing communication between roles in the company. Developers chat to sales/marketing/AMs all the time, asking for feedback and input both ways.
  • We use the best technology to solve problems, whether it’s something new or something established

Benefits

  • We never run out of coffee/snacks/craft-beer
  • Weekly training sessions where one of the team presents a new technology or we watch and discuss a talk from experts
  • We’ve got great infrastructure for working from home (easy to drop-in hangouts, a lot of communication over chat and GitHub)
  • Great collaborative environment. Everyone wants to improve and get better at coding.

We pair extraordinary UX with vast data sources to prevent financial crime worldwide. We don’t need loads of QA experience: but we are looking for someone who:

  • Is unafraid to pull-up their sleeves.
  • Likes seeing things through to completion.
  • Is not afraid to get into the details with unfamiliar technologies.

Arachnys is a workflow automation platform to analyse and prevent financial crime. We produce and maintain an enterprise-grade platform, enabling banks and multinationals to handle risks more efficiently and onboard customers, suppliers and partners. Our partners include global top-10 banks, big four advisory firms and large multinationals.

Why are we different?

  • We collaborate to solve hard problems for real customers; we never dump it all, or rely on rockstar coders.
  • We’re committed to delivering quality, and we’re never afrad of pushing back on customer demands. A top bank recently told us we were the first supplier that had asked them “Why?” about their requirements.
  • We encourage colleagues to try and fail, rather than not try at all.
  • We don’t follow test scripts (like zombies) - we prod buttons and boxes you wouldn’t even think to put in a test script.

What hard problems are we solving?

  • Big data: we have a news cluster of a 120TB+ that we do millions of searches a day against.

  • We use the best technology to solve problems, whether it’s something new or something established.

Your challenges:

  • Manually testing all new features before release.
  • Design and execute test plans and develop strategy.
  • Tracking down bugs.
  • Root cause analysis.
  • Exploratory testing of edge cases.
  • Working with Developers to ensure high quality releases.
  • Reviewing work of development team.
  • Build your own tests and developing strategy.

Why you?

  • You’re inquisitive.
  • You’re not satisfied with just identifying the bug, you want to understand why it’s there.
  • Curious about software architecture, you want to understand how software fits together.
  • You want to learn about coding (although you don’t need to know any right now).

Additional benefits

  • Great collaborative environment. Everyone wants to improve and get better at coding.
  • Weekly training sessions where one of the team presents a new technology or we watch and discuss a talk from experts.
  • We’ve got great infrastructure for working from home (easy to drop-in hangouts, a lot of communication over chat and GitHub).
  • Or hang out in the office, where we never run out coffee/snacks/craft-beer.
